Well we spent a week in Winchester Bay on the coast of Oregon about 18 miles south of Florence. It is a pretty out of the way place but is popular with the Dune Buggy crowd. The campground we were staying in was crowed with Sand Rails, Dune Buggies of all shape, sizes and I am sure worth lots of money. The dunes cover a large area and the testerone(spl) is in high gear!!!
We spent a week with friends and had a great time.
Learned how to clam and enjoyed the heck out of it. Our friend Joe Souza showed me how to dig and I know he wishes he had a camera to take a picture of my outfit the first day. As you have to dig in the mud and at low tide had to figure out some way to keep my boots somewhat dry. So I came up with the great idea of taking 2 garbage bags (white) and put one over each foot and wrapped them around each of my legs and secured them with a rubber band on each one (get the visual here). They kept each shoe pretty dry and made it through the entire clamming adventure. Needless to say once I decided I liked this and we got done, we headed over to the local Ace Harware and I bought myself a pair of boots. There was no way that I wanted to wear another pair of those self-made designer (so called) garbage bag boots again. Was okay with some of the smiles I got on the first day but wasn't ready for those looks again. Plus our friend Joe and Ron promised to bring a camera and take pictures of me. Wasn't ready for that one.
The 2nd day was a lot easier is the boots and I dragged Ron along on Day 2. We both had a great time and we met this guy who had retired and moved up from Petaluma, CA about a year ago. He was out clamming for a 4th of July clam bake his group was having.
The 1st day, I got about 20 clams and then on Day 2, we got about 30 clams between Ron and I.
Cleaning those buggers takes lots of work but it was fun. Now I can't wait to make some clam linguini or chowder.
