Picasa Web Albums - Liz - 2n Trip to De...

Well, it looks like I finally figured out how to put the picture album onto the BLOG. If you click on the above link you will see the 2nd trip we made to Death Valley.

On our 2nd trip we visited an area known as Artist's Valley. I can understand why after viewing the area. The colors in the hills/rocks is beautiful. As we passed around a corner we actually came across a pair of artist's who had their canvas set up and chair with a sun cover providing them with some shade and they were doing some painting. I thought I had taken a picture of them but can't seem to find them.

We then went to an area known as Devil's Golf Course. No golfer would want to even try to golf here. It is a huge area where the salt water has dried on the dirt and with the winds various creations have been created in the dirt. It was so funny seeing all of photo takers taking pictures of this area.

Lastly, we were Badwater. This area is 282 (or does the sign say 252) feet below Sea Level. I tried to get a good enough picture of the sign where it shows sea level up in the rocks but you may have to zoom in to see that one.

All in all, DV is a very interesting place to visit. We plan to go back and visit some more the area and check out a few of the ghosts towns around the area. Needless to say we will visit either in the Spring or Fall. Won't see me where the weather gets above 105.

The Trip to the Desert

Picasa Web Albums - Liz - 1st Trip into...

Well, we did our first spring trip this year down to the Desert. Ron and I got going in the Purple Machine and headed on down the California Highway. We made it to Modesto the first night (about 3 hrs South of Auburn)and spent the night at some friends. They also were going so we followed each other from Modesto, CA to Pahrump, NV. Yes, there is a place called Pahrump, NV. It is about 30 miles East of Death Valley and about 45 miles West of Las Vegas. This was a long day of driving, so the first day after we arrived, we just checked out the town and local casino.

We stayed at a really nice RV Resort, called Terrible Herb's. It has a lake, swimming and a casino. Found out one of our traveling partners likes to hit those slot machines. Sandi even got me in the casine every day playing those slots and joining in the slot tournament they offer to the customer's. You get 3 chances (2 minutes each) and the customer's with the most daily total's win $100 and then they also have weekly winners. I made it to #7 one night. Learned a new game with Mermaids, but enjoyed playing the blackjack best.

On Day 2, we took a drive over to Red Rock Canyon. It is located just on the outskirsts of Las Vegas. It is a real beautiful area that is managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Mgmt). Whe I was working in outside plant, I was in a meeting in Vegas where we got a special tour from the local BLM District Mgr. We even had snow that day, which you will see from some of the pictures. As I haven't been too successful on getting the pictures over to his blog, I am including the link to Picasso which will then allow you to see the pictures from the day.

Tomorrow, I am going to add the rest of the pictures from our trip over to Death Valley. I had never been to Death Valley, and have to tell you, it is a really beautiful place (from a Desert point of view). We didn't see as many wildflowers as I was hoping for, but other things we saw and visited were great to see. Happy reading and hope you enjoy the pictures.

Step 2--Getting the word out to everyone

Well, I now know how to send out the notification to everyone so they can begin reviewing our goings on and get a laugh on my dime of how I am learning the "blog business". So this is my first attempt with getting a picture on site. So let's try it out and see how it works.

Learning How to Blog

As a newbie to this Blog world, decided to try my hand at creating a blog, then sharing with friends and family tibits and pictures on our travels. Certainly glad I am retired as it has taken me a little while on figuring out how to set this all up and then how to post my comments. I have 2 new friends who have their own blogs and if I cannot figure out more of how to do this, I am going to break down and give them a call to find out how to do more on this.

Now, I finally got our pictures transferred over to the computer and worked on editing them last night. You can spend a whole day (even more) doing all of this. Additionally, if you have multiple photo programs you begin to start pulling out your hair deciding which program to use and where to file them, as you start to realize how much space you are taking up on your computer. I couldn't even try this if I was still working and being on one of my infamous conference calls as you really need to be concentrating on this stuff.

My next step is to figure out the url for this site, share it with friends and family and then begin posting our little travel stories to share with everyone.
