We are getting ready to try a new hobby, kayaking. As we live up here in Northern California surrounded by some beautiful calm lakes within about 25 miles from were we live, we wanted to find something Ron and I could do together. So we are now in the "research mode" of trying to figure out which kayak to buy.
I could not believe there were different kinds of kayaks, single, tandems (which is for two), ones you sit in or ones you sit on top of. First we figured we would each get our own kayak as Ron and I both want to be in control. We have since decided to try getting a tandem. Hopefully, we will figure out how to work together and not hit one another over the head with a paddle if someone messes up.(haha)
We stopped by one of the local canoe/kayak shops over in Grass Valley on Saturday after we were on our way home from Reno. Seems as if the canoe shops have demo days each month so we are going to try this out and then maybe rent a couple of times before we leap into buying one. We figure if we wait a couple of months maybe we could buy a good used one for a reasonable price.
I am just hoping it warms up some more as most of the lakes around us are fed by some of the mountain snows and the water is quite cold at the moment.
Also have made it very clear to Ron, that I am not interested in kayaking in the rivers, want something calm with very little wave action on the lake. I'll keep everyone updated on our progress.
